Great art takes great planning.

Liberty Enlightening the World, better known as the Statue of Liberty, is an artistic creation of both France and the United States. This 305 foot, 225 ton copper statue took seven years to design.

French sculptor Frédéric Bartholdi modeled her after the Roman goddess Libertas. He added an illuminated crown and torch so she could give light. A tablet bears the date of the Declaration of Independence. A broken shackle and chain at her feet commemorate the recent abolition of slavery. Then, she was placed at a main doorway to the US, showing all newcomers that the United States stands for freedom.

Lady Liberty’s every detail was planned, including her placement and her mission. She was so valued that two countries financed her creation and spent nine years assembling her in New York Harbor.

If mankind can take such care with copper and stone, with sketching and planning, building and boxing and carefully assembling, how much more does our loving God care for the things He makes? People are one of His favorite creations after all, made in His image.

However it is that we’ve been sculpted, wherever it is that we’ve been placed, we are God’s great workmanship. We are the light He’s planned for this dark world. He has a vision for us, too.
