How Does Jesus Bring Joy to My World?

List by Ami Hendrickson

“Joy to the world, the Lord is come!” We sing the familiar carol every Christmas season. From the beginning of time, humanity looked forward to the Savior’s birth. For the past two thousand years, everyone — from lowly shepherds to learned wise men — has found joy in Jesus.

Jesus' birth brings joy to everyone

Luke 2:10

The angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people.”

Jesus' birth as a baby is cause for rejoicing

Matthew 2:9-10

They, having heard the king, went their way; and behold, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them until it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.

Jesus is the source of my strength

2 Corinthians 12:10

Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, and in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong.

Christ's power strengthens my weakness

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

Any persecution I endure in Jesus' name is a blessing forever

1 Peter 4:14

If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed; because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.

Believing in Jesus fills me with glory and joy; He saves my soul

1 Peter 1:8-9

Whom, not having known, you love. In him, though now you don’t see him, yet believing, you rejoice greatly with joy that is unspeakable and full of glory, receiving the result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Suffering puts me in fellowship with Jesus

Philippians 3:10

That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming conformed to his death.

Jesus Himself purifies me of my sins

Hebrews 1:3

His Son is the radiance of his glory, the very image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, who, when he had by himself purified us of our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.

Jesus gives me peace now

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.
