My wife was recently diagnosed with liver cancer. Appointments with doctors, social workers, surgeons, oncologists, and radiologists overwhelmed us.

The cancer treatment center was a two-hour drive away. Saying a prayer before we went in helped to settle both our emotions. Reminding ourselves of the promise of everlasting life consoled our hearts and minds. There is much joy in knowing that no matter what happens, we have the promise of eternity with God.

My wife checked in and we sat down.

We could not help but look around at the others in the waiting room. Many of them were in wheelchairs, unable to walk.

One lady had a feeding tube going through her nose. She seemed weak and fragile. This lady was called for her appointment at the same time my wife was called for hers. After the first round of radiation, my wife walked out smiling.

As we drove home, my wife told me about the lady with the feeding tube. She said that the lady had such a positive attitude. She had some words of advice that my wife found very comforting: “Always smile when facing hardship and never let the joy God has given you fade away into the darkness.”

Praise God for His unfading joy!
