How can you tell if someone is lying to you?

According to body language experts, when a person is lying there are some telltale signs. For instance, touching one’s face, pursed lips, excessive sweating, and blushing are dead giveaways.

There’s no secret that people lie and according to statistics, the average person lies about three times a day.

In the 1920’s, the lie detector was invented by John Augustus Larson and further developed by William Moulton Marston. The lie detector has been an obsession for many in popular culture because it exposes our desire to know the truth.

In Acts 23, Paul is before the Jewish council and he wants them to know the truth. He has a clear conscience before God. He isn’t lying about the gospel of Jesus Christ. In fact, he has lived a life of integrity and he is willing to lay down his life for the truth.

This was not an easy position to be in, but Paul’s love for God superseded his comfort. He knew that he needed to testify about the truth of the resurrection of Jesus in a room full of unbelievers and nay-sayers.

Like Paul, let’s strive to have a clear conscience before God and testify about His power to others, especially those who need the truth of the Gospel.
