The Wisdom of Solomon

When God asked the newly crowned King Solomon what gift He wanted, instead of choosing long life or earthly wealth, Solomon chose wisdom so he could judge the people and discern good from evil (1 Kings 3:5-14). Solomon is said to have written over 3000 proverbs and over 1000 songs (1 Kings 4:32). His thoughts on wisdom are worthy of my attention, even today.
Seeking God improves my understanding
Proverbs 28:5
Evil men don’t understand justice; but those who seek the LORD understand it fully.
God gives me wisdom
Proverbs 2:6-7
For the LORD gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. He lays up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity.
Wisdom is power
Proverbs 24:5-6
A wise man has great power; and a knowledgeable man increases strength; for by wise guidance you wage your war; and victory is in many advisors.
Wisdom is better than war
Ecclesiastes 9:18
Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroys much good.
Wise people fear God
Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.
Hope is wisdom’s reward
Proverbs 24:14
So you shall know wisdom to be to your soul. If you have found it, then there will be a reward: Your hope will not be cut off.
Wisdom is strength
Ecclesiastes 7:19
Wisdom is a strength to the wise man more than ten rulers who are in a city.
Wisdom is supreme
Proverbs 4:7-9
Wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom. Yes, though it costs all your possessions, get understanding. Esteem her, and she will exalt you. She will bring you to honor when you embrace her. She will give to your head a garland of grace. She will deliver a crown of splendor to you.
Wisdom is a life preserver
Ecclesiastes 7:11-12
Wisdom is as good as an inheritance. Yes, it is more excellent for those who see the sun. For wisdom is a defense, even as money is a defense; but the excellency of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it.
Wisdom is better than wealth
Proverbs 3:13-14
Happy is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding. For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold.
Wisdom wins souls for God
Proverbs 11:30
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life. He who is wise wins souls.
The Lord gives wisdom
Proverbs 2:5-7
