The children of the Levites bore God’s ark on their shoulders with its poles, as Moses commanded according to the LORD’s word. David spoke to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brothers as singers with instruments of music, stringed instruments, harps, and cymbals, sounding aloud and lifting up their voices with joy.
Music affects your brain.
Research consistently shows that musicians’ brains are structured differently than persons with no musical training. Musicians’ brains have better cognitive function and tend to be better at remembering things.
But don’t despair if you’ve never fiddled with an instrument. Music benefits everyone. Not only does listening to music keep your brain engaged as you age, but it also helps to reduce anxiety and improve your mood.
Music is truly a gift from God. It’s no wonder that the Bible is filled with examples of worship uplifted by musical expression. Music enhances joyful worship.
If music does all this good to an individual’s mental and emotional well-being, imagine the power of Spirit-filled music in corporate worship!
Joyful worship ignites a flame in spiritual well-being for all those involved. In 1 Chronicles 15, the people of God are celebrating the return of the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem. The ark indicated that God’s presence was in their midst. They were so overjoyed with the realization that God was among them that they broke out in joyful worship. They sang at the top of their lungs and played their instruments with sheer delight.
Our worship matters to God and when we infuse our adoration with musical praise, heaven listens and joins us in joyful worship.
What are some of my favorite worshipful songs and hymns? How does singing them affect my mood?
Beloved Lord, Please take pleasure in my joyful worship, as I lift my heart and soul in song. Infuse my worship with songs of praise and adoration. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
