I’m not a fan of scary movies. In fact, I avoid them at all costs.

As I child, however, my curiosity got the best of me.

I secretly watched two horror movie classics that should not be on any child’s list. This led to me being deathly afraid, especially around bedtime.

In the second chapter of 2 Thessalonians, Paul is letting us know that before Jesus returns, the world will seem like a horror movie but unlike the cryptic ending of many films, this story will have a happy ending: the utter destruction of evil.

The chapter details how rebellion against God will be on trend in the last days and a man of lawlessness will lead others into sinning against God all while exalting himself as God.

With all of these horrific scenes unfolding, Paul pauses to encourage God’s people to stand firm to their faith.

He doesn’t sugarcoat the truth. Times will get hard, seemingly unbearable. But there’s comfort for those of us who trust in God and hold onto His unchanging hand.

During these times of uncertainty, keep a strong grip on the divine teachings, because God promises to comfort us and see us through. In fact, God promises eternal comfort — a comfort that has no end.
