I once helped out at a poor church in Los Angeles.

There, a woman went to bed before dark so she wouldn’t have to pay for lights. A very young couple had a toddler already and a baby on the way. Extended families were squeezed into city apartments. Needless to say, most of the church didn’t have extra money to spend.

But I had a side job selling products. The company I worked for encouraged me to offer their goods everywhere. I can’t forget the shame I felt pulling merchandise out of a basket for the youth to gander at. I knew what I was offering wasn’t as valuable as the change in their pockets.

However, when you’re passionate about something, you’re not ashamed to share it.

What the church in LA needed was Jesus. Because I need Him too, there is never any shame in offering Him to others. I need Him in my family, embracing my friends, and directing my leaders.

I can pour His words on a hurting family member. I can share His money with orphans. I can encourage a struggling family to go to church. I can tell a neighbor I’ll pray for their trouble.

Sharing Jesus even comes with a payback! He makes my world a better place.
