Why is it hard for so many of us to believe that God loves us?

We read it in our Bibles. We see examples of it in our lives. However, we often struggle to believe that God loves us, especially after we have sinned.

In theory, we sing songs about God’s love but in reality, we live with so much shame and condemnation. The Bible reminds us that God’s love drives away fear.

The fear that overwhelms us comes from the enemy of our souls, the devil. He plants seeds of doubt in our minds to cause us to sabotage and stifle our relationship with our loving Heavenly Father. He does this so we will throw in the towel and give up, but as we grow closer to God, we begin to realize that His love supersedes our negative feelings.

Honestly, I spent so many years trying to make God love me. It was hard for me to believe that I was loved and accepted.

The more I read the Bible, the more I realized that I was trying to work for a free gift, the gift of salvation. God’s expectations and love of us are clear; everything else is extra. God wants us to love Him supremely and to love others as we love ourselves. He desires our good and He loves us beyond belief.
