Growing up, I remember that I so often wanted more.

I’d look at the people around me and I wanted more of what they had. More vacations, more new clothes, more electronics, more money. Yet, none of those things were the way my family lived. We had what we needed and that usually didn’t include the fanciest and newest.

Looking back now, I love the way we lived. I loved the time we were able to put into being a family because we didn’t have all of the electronics and crazy schedules of those around us.

In Hebrews 13:5, we are instructed to be content with what we have.

This first part of this final chapter of Hebrews is a small section of advice on how to live the Christian life. Part of that instruction is the advice to not seek after more money, but to be content with what you have. The author also reminds us that one of the greatest things we have is the assurance of God’s presence in our lives.

Above everything else we have, we can be content with the fact that our God desires relationship with us. I encourage you today to consider the things in your life that are blessings and that bring contentment.
