Is it illegal to lie on a résumé?

Technically, it isn’t but it shows a lack of integrity. Recent studies show that more than one-third of people lie on their résumés. What is it about finding a job that makes thirty-six percent of Americans fib on the details of their work and abilities?

Lying may be common when searching for employment, but this doesn’t have to be the case, especially not for the believer. As Christians, we are called to a higher standard because we answer to a higher boss: the God of the Universe.

In 2 Samuel 22, David praises the Lord for delivering him from his enemies. He does not claim to be perfect; far from it. However, he attributes his integrity to the reason God has allowed the blessings and protection to be evident in his life.

David is grateful that God has rewarded him for doing right and showing mercy to others. As a result, God extends mercy to David. On the other hand, David acknowledges that those who seek to be devious in their ways will ultimately be outwitted by God.

David’s praise conveys the importance of living in integrity despite the prevalence of wickedness because our integrity affects how God interacts with us.
