What I Need When I Need It

by Darla Noble

2 Corinthians 3:4-5

Such confidence we have through Christ toward God, not that we are sufficient of ourselves, to account anything as from ourselves; but our sufficiency is from God.

Louann was the mother of five and the wife of a soldier during the Vietnam War.

It wasn’t easy being a married single mom, knowing she could become a widowed single mom on any given day. Because of Louann’s faith, any time she found herself moving toward that way of thinking, she prayed, “God, help me remember Your wisdom is enough and that You will give me what I need when I need it.”

She soon discovered that each time she prayed that prayer, God answered by giving her a boost of confidence.

Sometimes that boost came by way of an unexpected letter from her husband, a gift from a friend, an encouraging phone call, extra hugs and snuggles from her kids, or compliments on how kind and good her kids were.

“Those things always came at just the right moment,” Louann recalls. “They were like booster shots of confidence that I was not alone. And trust me, there were a lot of times I felt very much alone.”

God wants to make sure we never feel alone, either. He wants to be our rock and foundation — the source of confidence that keeps us going.

Reflection

In what areas of my life do I need to be more confident in God and less confident in myself?

Prayer

Dear God, Please help me have the will and desire to fully rely on You, trusting that I will always have exactly what I need. I pledge to start living a God-sufficient life, instead of a self-sufficient life, today. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
