The disciples spent three years with Jesus, learning from Him and traveling with Him as they moved from place to place.

They must have been devastated when He died.

But when He was resurrected and appeared to them; showing them He was alive; it must have been the most wonderful surprise.

Before His death, Jesus told the disciples that the Holy Spirit would come to them after He had left. And after His resurrection, right before His ascension He told them to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit to come.

It must have been amazing to watch Jesus rise into heaven. And perhaps a bit sad to feel His absence on the trek back to Jerusalem.

But God wasn’t done; He had promised to send His Spirit and He never breaks a promise.

On the Day of Pentecost (an agricultural festival in Israel) all the believers had gathered together. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in different languages (Acts 2:1-4) As a result of this, they preached the Gospel to the people in Jerusalem and 3,000 were baptized and added to the church (Acts 2:41).

God’s Spirit continues working miracles today. He’s still changing hearts. If we want to receive the Holy Spirit in our lives, all we have to do is ask.
