What are the elements of true worship?

When I think of worship, I think of singing songs of praise to God. And while I believe that is a part of worship. I also think it goes deeper than that.

I believe worship comes from a place of deep love and brokenness.

We worship from love because of God’s love for us. We worship from brokenness because of all He’s done in the past and continues to do for us in the present.

Another factor of worship is trust.

When people worship, it’s because they want to feel close to God, or because they want to praise Him for all the wonderful things He has done. But the great thing about God is that He is always close, even when we can’t feel or see Him working in our lives. And in those moments, when we don’t know what He’s doing, yet we continue to hold on and trust Him, that can be a form of worship as well — especially when the thing you wanted so badly to happen doesn’t, and you decide to trust in God anyway, even though it hurts.

That’s true worship for me: trusting and worshiping God in the good and the bad, knowing that He will bring you through.
