I wonder what went through Zacchaeus’ mind when Jesus stopped in front of the tree he was in.

Was he excited? Fearful?

Imagine the burst of joy and excitement that flew through Zacchaeus when Jesus asked to eat with him. How quickly he must have scurried down that tree!

Once at the bottom, perhaps he stood up straighter, motioning happily for Jesus to follow him. But maybe his back hunched a little when he saw everyone’s angry stares. And when they got to his house, his head might have bowed when he heard the crowd whispering, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner” (Luke 19:7).

But before they could say anything else, he said, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount” (Luke 19:8).

Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house… For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:9-10).

Jesus changed Zacchaeus’ life that day.

He can change yours, too.
