Sometimes, we only turn to God when we have exhausted every other option.

A lifelong friend repeatedly borrowed funds from me. Every time, I stressed I needed the money returned, but it never was.

Tragedy after tragedy plagued this family. Her brother passed from a drug overdose. Her older brother passed from a massive heart attack. Her sister passed from liver disease caused by drugs.

Her husband called me one day after a long absence. He told me that he needed to get right with God and asked if I could come and talk to him.

I immediately dropped what I was doing and went to him. He was sitting in the doorway to his garage in a lawn chair.

I asked him what the problem was. He told me he had pancreatic cancer and was going to die soon. He had spent so long in darkness. Now he was turning toward the light.

We talked and cried with each other. John 8:12, with Jesus saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness but will have the light of Life,” is a living example of how to obtain the grace of eternal life given to us. We don’t have to wander in darkness. The light of life is free. The only cost is our acceptance.
