When I think of integrity of heart, I think of a cross-country race at the end of 2012 in Spain.

Abel Mutai, a Kenyan runner, was clearly in the lead as the finish line neared and would have certainly won the race. However, Mutai, who did not speak Spanish, got confused by the signs and began to slow down thinking he had already won.

Behind him, Spanish runner Ivan Fernández Anaya was closing the gap, but soon realized that Mutai was confused. Instead of running past him and claiming the victory as his own, Fernández indicated to Mutai that his race was not done.

With Fernández pointing to the finish line, Mutai finished his race, coming in first, with Fernández placing second.

Fernández, out of integrity of heart, knew that Mutai was the rightful winner and helped him in his confusion.

God wants His people to have this integrity of heart, knowing what is right and walking in those ways. When we choose to walk contrary to His ways, we follow paths that naturally bring about consequences that are the opposite of the blessings God desires for us. However, as we walk in integrity, knowing His statues and walking according to them, we enable God to fulfill His promises and bless us.
