So Many Songs I Could Sing

by Darla Noble

Psalm 28:7

The LORD is my strength and my shield. My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart greatly rejoices. With my song I will thank him.

When I read today’s verse, I immediately start thinking of a number of different songs I love, all of which are thank-you’s to God.

I think about songs like “Thank You, Lord,” “Give Thanks With a Grateful Heart,” and “How Great Thou Art.” I could go on and on.

Perhaps one of the best-known praise songs is the Doxology.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

Praise Him all creatures here below.

Praise Him above, ye heavenly hosts.

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

I think I’ve sung that song a million times, but the night my dear friend asked us to sing it with him — well, that time is more meaningful than any other.

You see, it was my friend’s first time to be “out and about” since a freak accident left him a quadriplegic in a matter of seconds. And here he was singing “Praise God from whom all blessings flow….”

Even when it seems we don’t have much to be thankful for, we can praise God for His rich and wonderful blessings because — praise God! — we always have Jesus and His gift of love to us on the cross.

Reflection

What can I do to express my thanks to God today? How can I make my life a daily expression of thanks to God?

Prayer

Thank You, Lord, thank You. You alone are my strength and my shield. Thank You for life, for Your presence, wisdom, blessings, and love. I am so grateful for Your protection. You are worthy of all glory and praise. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
