Grateful Praise

by Beatrice Jean-Baptiste

Psalm 100:4

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, and bless his name.

Gracias. Merci. Arigato.

Regardless of the language you speak, “thank you” is a powerful expression of gratitude.

Gratitude conveys good manners and appreciation. In fact, being grateful is good for you! According to Psychology Today, gratitude improves both physical and psychological health.

Research supports gratitude’s positive link to happiness. Studies show that grateful people report fewer aches and pains — and even sleep better. Moreover, grateful people experience less toxic emotions, which contributes to their overall wellbeing.

The Bible tells us in Proverbs 17:22 that a joyful heart is good for one’s health. Not only does gratitude improve physical and psychological health, but I can testify from personal experience that it also enhances one’s spiritual health.

Saying “thank you” to others is a surefire way to improve relationships, but have you considered the impact of gratitude on our relationship with God?

Gratitude coupled with praise is an explosive combination that ushers us into the presence of God. In worship, gratitude says, “Thank You, God, for Your gifts” and praise says, “Thank You, God, for who You are.”

When used together, this dynamic duo allows us to “enter into His gates with thanksgiving” and experience a spiritual renewal like no other.

Reflection

What are specific attributes of God that cause my heart to pause and praise Him for who He is?

Prayer

Dear God, I worship because You are magnificent, radiant, righteous, sovereign, holy, full of love and wisdom. You are worthy of all my praise. I thank You for never leaving me or forsaking me. Thank You for Your protection, provision, and patience. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
