And from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us, and washed us from our sins by his blood - and he made us to be a Kingdom, priests to his God and Father - to him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
We cannot fully grasp God’s essence. But we can understand God as He is revealed in the Bible. Today’s verse describes who Jesus, as God, is.
As the “faithful witness,” Jesus introduced God to us.
To Adam and Eve, He was Creator. To Noah, righteousness. To Abraham, faithfulness. To Moses, He was mighty. To the Children of Israel, He was provider.
Through Jesus, God showed the rest of the world that He loves.
Somehow, in God’s great mystery, our God is also Jesus who is “the image of the invisible God” (Colossians 1:15). He is God in our world, created to suit our dimensions and our senses.
Jesus is the creator of the visible and invisible world (Colossians 1:16). He is sinless — righteous (1 Peter 2:22). He is faithful to God (Hebrews 3:2). He provided and cared for people. Jesus has all the attributes of the Old Testament God because He is! Jesus is the faithful witness.
Now, the faithful witness is with you through the Holy Spirit.
Jesus loves you. He washed you from your sins by His blood. He made you be in His Kingdom. He made you a priest to God and His Father. Therefore, you can truly praise Him, now and forever.
As a believer, how has Christ made me a “king and priest unto God?” How do I fulfill the promises of Scripture in my life?
Dear Jesus, Thank You for showing me the perfection of God. Please help me to be a faithful witness of Your grace and love. To You be the glory and the dominion forever and ever, I pray, Amen.
