Who God Has Made You to Be

by John Michalak

Proverbs 31:28-30

Her children rise up and call her blessed. Her husband also praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you excel them all.” Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.

God is Spirit. While primarily described in masculine terms, He’s neither male nor female. However, both men and women are created in God’s image.

Instincts in men, like protecting and providing, mirror the way God protects and provides.

And women, too. Women are strong in compassion and mercy. In the way they listen, in the way they nurture their children, how they sustain and safeguard their household, women reveal how God relates to us in a way that men were never designed to do.

One curse of the Fall was the diminishment of women, particularly in how they reflect God’s image. To accommodate, women have used beauty to evaluate their self-worth. But, Proverbs 31 speaks of a beauty that goes beneath the surface. A beauty reflecting the beauty of God.

If you’re a woman who has doubted her value—know this. God finds you beautiful. God created you to walk in beauty. Your instincts to love and care for your family and friends, your desire to live for God and make Him known—these are far more beautiful than the glossiest magazine cover.

As a woman, you complete our picture of God. Walk in the beauty of who God has made you to be.
