Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity. Until I come, pay attention to reading, to exhortation, and to teaching.
Life is full of age-related milestones and rites of passage.
We start school when we are 5 years old. You have to be 16 to get a driver’s license, 18 to vote and to be considered an adult, and 62 to receive Social Security benefits. But there is one thing that doesn’t have an age-related number attached to it. It also happens to be the most important milestone we will ever achieve: the decision to accept Christ as our Savior.
While all of those other things are significant in some way, none of them are as important as our relationship with God and the way in which we represent Him.
Our speech, our faith, the love we extend to others, and the lifestyle we lead — all of these things need to reflect the life of Jesus Christ.
In living life on these terms, we are “paying attention,” as today’s verses tell us to — paying attention to being about our Father’s business as Jesus instructed us. Praise Jesus, living for Him is something anyone can do at any age!
How can I let the Lord guard my heart, soul, and mind, so everything I do reflects Jesus’ love, grace, and holiness? Am I doing those things? Why or why not?
Dear Lord, Please guard my heart, soul, and mind. May my faith, my speech, my attitude, and my lifestyle reflect Your love, grace, and holiness. With Your help, I will do my best to be an example to those who believe. I pray in Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
