Air traffic controllers have enormous responsibility.

The directions they give keep thousands of people safe every day. It doesn’t matter whether or not people like them. What matters is that pilots listen to them and do exactly what they say.

In 2014, the following exchange took place between an air traffic controller at Atlanta Airport and a jet pilot coming in for a landing.

The air traffic controller named the plane and said: “you’re supposed to be on Mike” (Taxiway M).

“Going there right now,” said the pilot.

“Looks like you joined Lima” (Taxiway L).

The pilot became irate. “We’ll taxi out there any way we want! I don’t like your attitude!”

“No attitude,” the controller said. “It’s my job to correct you if you mess up.”

The pilot began to argue, pitching a tantrum like a toddler until another pilot piped up. “Settle down, Captain Happy.”

How often we are like the first pilot: in the wrong place, perhaps even endangering ourselves and others, but choosing to argue with the One Who sees the whole picture! Today’s verse reminds us that Jesus is our Air Traffic Controller.

Our lives depend upon His words. All we need to do is settle down, listen to Him and do exactly what He says.
