For as a young man marries a virgin, so your sons will marry you. As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so your God will rejoice over you.
I love weddings.
I coordinated wedding events and thoroughly enjoy attending weddings. There is anticipation, longing, and hope. There is love, beauty, and joy. In fact, even the most disappointing marriages usually start out with a beautiful wedding — no matter how simple. I love the freshness in new beginnings.
In the bridegroom’s demeanor, I usually sense the milestones he has already navigated to get to this point. He is the chosen out of many rivals, I imagine. His challenge now is to face an unknown future with boldness and courage.
His eyes are fixed at the entrance where his bride-to-be will emerge. It never fails. There is always a spark, a glint in his eyes when his long-awaited comes in.
And when the ceremony is completed, and she is his wife, indeed? What rejoicing, what relief overwhelms him.
Today’s verse peeks into the heart of God. It reveals that, as I love weddings, the God of the universe is likewise in love with me. He seizes every opportunity to prove His love, despite the many contenders for my time, commitment, and attention. He longs for me to love Him too and accept His proposal of forever love.
I imagine Him waiting, yearning, longing for my answer to be “Yes.” I believe that He loves weddings, too!
God stands ready for an undying commitment to me. What, on my part, hinders a total commitment to Him?
Dear Jesus, “Yes!” Lord, “Yes!” I truly want a forever love with You. Thank You for rejoicing over me. You are everything to me. In Your name I pray, Amen.
