Since 2006, Twitter has been one of the most popular social media platforms of choice. Every month, over 320 million people are posting the intimate details of their daily lives on it, or following someone else who is.

Though the statics change frequently, at the beginning of 2020, former U.S. President Barack Obama and pop stars Justin Bieber and Katy Perry top the list: each with over 100 million followers.

Yet there is One who has more declared followers than they: 2.2 billion, to be exact. Jesus. His followers listen for His voice on all sorts of platforms, all over the world — websites, radio, classrooms, churches, books, and prayers.

Perhaps if Jesus were on Twitter, He would post things like:

“Care for the poor” (Matthew 19:21).

“Look after widows and orphans” (James 1:27).

“Don’t turn away from anyone that asks of you” (Matthew 5:42).

“Don’t repay evil for evil” (1 Peter 3:9).

“Be tolerant of one another” (Ephesians 4:3-4).

“Do to others what you would have them do to you” (Matthew 7:12).

“Love your enemies” (Matthew 5:44).

“When you pray, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them” (Mark 11:25).

Jesus’ “tweets” — His parables, His sermons — show us when, where, and how to love. Whatever the platform, the more we listen, the closer we follow, the more we will love like Him.
