“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Today rather than just read, I want you to do something. I want you to take a plain piece of paper hold it between your fingers and try to balance a book on top of it. The book can be the paperback you are reading, your Bible, or one of your kids’ books. It really doesn’t matter.
You couldn’t do it, could you?
Now roll the piece of paper into a tube about the size of the tube you find at the end of a roll of paper towels. Tape it to so it will hold its shape. Now stand the tube on a table AND balance the book on the top of it.
Same piece of paper. Same book. Different outcome. Why? Because you changed the shape of the paper so that the weight of the book could be absorbed by more of the paper.
Today’s verse likens us to a piece of paper. When we try doing things on our own, we cannot take the weight of the things this life brings our way (or that we bring upon ourselves). When we allow ourselves to become one with Christ, however, He circles His loving arms around us—holding us securely in place. And it is His presence that allows us to bear up under the weight of whatever comes our way.
Don’t try to do life alone. It’s just not worth it.
DO IT: Make a list of the areas in your life you have not fully turned over to God. Pray over this list and take the necessary steps to let God have it all.
