Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
Right before they wheeled Granny into surgery to replace one of the valves in her heart, we gave each other a kiss, and then she said, “Don’t worry about me. And if something happens to me, remember you’ll be fine. God is the one who has been taking care of you all these years. He’s not going to stop just because I’m gone.”
I’m happy to report Granny came through the surgery just fine and we enjoyed several more years together before Alzheimer’s slowly took her from me. And it was during those times when we were struggling with the ugliness of her disease that her words came back to me time and time again. God was the one taking care of us and He wasn’t going to stop. Not ever.
There is nothing we can go through that God cannot protect us from. There is nothing too big or too evil for God to bring us out of. Or as Larry, the cucumber would say (Veggie Tales) “God is bigger than the boogie man!” And He is!
God, thank You for always being close by; ready to protect me and give me strength and comfort. Give me the faith to depend on You every day—in good times and bad—so that I will never doubt Your love. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
