Great Courage

by John Michalak

Psalm 27:1, 3

The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid? Though an army should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear. Though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident.

To watch the news is to live in fear.

Local news reports on the latest violence in your neighborhood. National and international news speak of the latest bombings and threats of war.

Who could blame you for hiding under the covers, paralyzed by this world so out of control?

But no matter how oppressive it feels, fear is usually a trick of the mind. It’s really triggered, or shut down, by what you choose to focus on.

What… or whom… are you focusing on? More importantly, whom do you trust?

The Bible is a newscast.

It doesn’t hide the bad news, but it also delivers Good News. The best news. In a world so out of control, it broadcasts the headline that we have nothing to fear. It narrows our focus on the God above all things; the One we can trust. We must keep our eyes on the God who strengthens us and who can deliver us from this dangerous world.

Trust in this holy and loving God who is your light and salvation. This can give you great courage to handle any seemingly impossible situation with God’s countless solutions.

Reflection

What is most important to me: a comfortable life, or becoming a stronger person? Why?

Prayer

Almighty God, You are the source of all my strength. You protect me against all enemies. Thank You for making me confident in Your love and in Your leading. With You by my side, fear is banished. In Jesus’ dear name I pray, Amen.
