Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good. Abstain from every form of evil.
Today’s verse sums up what we must do to be ready to meet Jesus face to face when He returns for the final judgment.
Test all things: Distinguish truth from lies according to the Word of God (1 Thessalonians 5:19-20).
Hold firmly that which is good. After you discern what is true and good according to God’s Word, hold on to what is good, despite countless temptations to let it go.
Abstain from every form of evil (verse 22). Stay away from anything contrary to what God calls good.
The next verse (1 Thessalonians 5:23) spells out the blessing we will receive: “May the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely.”
Give God your heart, soul, and mind and let Him make you pure and holy.
None of us knows when Jesus is coming again, but if you are always ready, it won’t matter. When you live in readiness, the day of His return is a day to anticipate rather than dread.
How can I be ready to see Jesus face to face at any moment of my life?
Create in me a clean heart, O God. Please renew a loyal spirit within me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and make me willing to obey You. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
