For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.
Vince led worship and sang at various church events. He also volunteered his talents as a handyman to keep the building in good repair. He did the same for several members of the congregation.
His friendly, outgoing personality made it easy to love him, so when he volunteered to help with the new “Celebrate Recovery” outreach, the preacher was thrilled. But it wasn’t until the following week that Vincent explained why he was so eager to be part of this ministry.
With tears streaming down his face, he confessed he’d had a drinking problem for several years. “I’m a pro at hiding it from everyone — including myself. But the guilt has been eating at me. I’m tired of living a lie. It’s time I admit that hiding my dependency doesn’t make it any better or any less real. I am a sinner in need of a Savior and in need of your love, prayers, and support.”
Eight years later, Vincent is sober and grateful for the life God gives through Jesus. His first step toward wholeness was in recognizing and confessing his shortcomings.
All have sinned. Jesus died for all. That means His sacrifice covers your sins as well as mine. All you and I have to do is ask forgiveness and accept His gift. Praise God!
What sins do I need to repent of and confess to God? How will God respond? (1 John 1:9).
Dear Jesus, I am a sinner. I am so unworthy, but enormously grateful for Your saving grace. Please wash me clean and keep me from falling short. In Your name I pray, Amen.
