Sin is Like a Stain

by Katelyn Molloy

Isaiah 64:6

For we have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteousness is like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.

I can’t wear white clothes.

Every time I wear something white, I end up spilling something on it!

Sometimes, I might try to fix it by myself by wetting a napkin or paper towel and scrubbing at it, but that usually only makes the area around the stain wet and the stain itself even more noticeable. Then I have to take it home and my mom will try her best to bleach the stain and make it go away.

Our righteousness, which we get from Christ, is kind of like white clothes. But when we sin, we stain them. Before we know it, our white clothes are “like a polluted garment.” And, try as we might, we can’t get the stain out by ourselves.

Thankfully, we don’t have to go far for this help. 1 John 1:9 says: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” How amazing is that?

So when we confess our sins, and God forgives us, it’s kind of like Jesus is washing out that stain for us, making us all clean again!

That’s definitely something to be thankful for!

Reflection

What must I do to be clean again? Thank You, God, for Your gift of grace!

Prayer

Dear Gracious God, Thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to die on the cross so You could forgive me of my sins. I am sorry for sinning against You and against Your other children. Please forgive me and wash me clean. I love You. In Jesus’ holy name I pray, Amen.
