He who spares his words has knowledge. He who is even tempered is a man of understanding. Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.
Why did Jesus not say anything when the religious leaders and the crowd shouted out to Pilot to sentence Him to die on the cross? He was blameless. Why didn’t He defend Himself?
As a Christian, sometimes the wisest thing we can do is to remain silent the way Jesus did. When you are sure speaking out will not change the outcome or when speaking out would keep you from letting God’s power and glory from being shown, keep silent.
Let God give you peace in your heart. Focus on your Defender and Savior, Jesus, and let Him take you through these difficult situations. Let your calm, peaceful attitude, and positive Christ-like demeanor will speak for you.
Father, give me the wisdom as to when not to speak, but instead, let my actions and attitude tell others about the peace I have that comes only from You. Let others see Jesus through me. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
