He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
I have a confession to make. I’m not very good at doing nothing.
In fact, I stink at it. I come from a long line of farmers and until a few short years ago, my days were spent caring for my four kids, 500-600 momma sheep (and their babies during lambing season), a greenhouse, and a BIG garden.
So doing nothing wasn’t on my radar.
It’s still not. I still feel like I’m doing something wrong if I’m not doing something.
Today’s verse says otherwise, though.
Today’s verse — along with Exodus 20:8-11 (the fourth Commandment) and others — tells me that God wants me and expects me to spend a day resting, refueling, and just being.
I’m trying to, but I sure could use your prayers on this one. How about we pray for each other that we can all yield to God to take a weekly day of rest, spending time with Him and letting Him fill our bodies, hearts, and minds with blessings He holds for us.
What place does a Sabbath rest hold in my schedule this week?
Dear God, Help me understand that the Sabbath isn’t just a good idea, but it is something You expect of me. It is a blessing You have given me — a weekly island of calm in a world of chaos. Thank You for Your blessed rest. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
