If It’s Not Broke, Don’t Fix It

by Darla Noble

Hebrews 13:8

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

We live in a society that is obsessed with “new,” “improved,” “latest,” “updated,” and “breakthroughs.”

Consider your phone. Or your computer. Or your television. Or your clothes. Every year, a vast number of people stand in line — even camp out overnight — to be among the first to get the newest Thing.

Sure, some things wear out and need to be replaced. But God isn’t one of those things. Nor is His Church. Jesus isn’t broken, so we shouldn’t be trying to fix Him.

We don’t need fancy churches, performance-like worship teams, colored lights, or eye-catching graphics and video presentations to be the Church God set into motion on the Day of Pentecost.

All we need is the Bible, a heart for God, a submissive will, and a desire to be like Jesus and nobody else.

Reflection

How has my relationship with Jesus grown and changed in the past week? In the past month?

Prayer

Dear Jesus, May I live each day being the person You have called me to be. You are unchanging in Your love for me and for others. I want to represent You in a way that pleases You. In Your name I pray, Amen.
