Don’t put your trust in princes, in a son of man in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, and he returns to the earth. In that very day, his thoughts perish. Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD, his God.
In what do you put your trust?
As one grows up, we learn what things to trust and not trust. We learn not to trust strangers, but to trust teachers and firemen. We learn to trust in education and hard work for success. We learn to distrust offers that sound too good to be true. We trust and depend on family and close friends during hard times.
But almost everything that we trust in can fail us at some point. Wealth and work can disappear when the economy goes bad. Friends and family can misunderstand or forget us. Even carefully screened opportunities can fail us.
God calls us to trust in Him, to put our hope in the Lord.
He promises He will supply all our needs and that our bread and water will be sure when we walk in His way. He is the unchanging rock, strong tower, a friend closer than a brother. He wants to heal us from the malady of sin and uphold us with His right hand. God is an ever-present help in trouble.
God wants us to trust in Him. Won’t you tell Him “yes” today?
What do I think my needs are? What if the needs I perceive differ from what God knows to be my needs? How can I resolve to trust in His faithfulness today?
Holy God, Please help me to trust and hope in Your presence. Please guide and carry me because I am weak and You are strong. Give me peace and happiness knowing that You are in control. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
