A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity.
A newspaper once offered a substantial cash award for the best answer to the question: “What is the shortest way to London?”
H. K. Downie’s winning answer was this: “The shortest way to London is with good company.”
While on a mission trip in Africa, the group I was with had to travel by bus for twelve hours. The roads were horrible and the bus was noisy; making it impossible to enjoy talking to one another to help pass the time. The twelve hours seemed more like twelve days.
Prior to making the same twelve-hour return trip, we installed a simple PA system with a couple of microphones. By doing so we were able to take turns sharing testimonies, telling stories, singing praise songs, and praying together. The time flew! The difference: good company.
How about you — do you have the best company you possibly could: Jesus?
Jesus said, “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13). And that is exactly what He did for everyone, including you.
If you know Jesus as your best friend, great! If not, I pray you will welcome Him into your life as your Savior, because the only way to an eternal home with God is through His good company.
Am I good company? I will ask God to help me show Jesus to those around me today.
Dear Jesus, Thank You for wanting to be my “good company.” I pray I will always feel Your presence. You make my life’s journey the best it can possibly be. In Your name I pray, Amen.
