Spiritual Insurance

by Heather Tietz

Ephesians 6:13

Therefore put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Between health insurance, car insurance, home owner’s insurance, dental, and vision, the average American spends well over $500 a month to protect their finances from the unexpected evils of this world.

But money only shields us from certain arrows. Tragedy takes a punch at our spirits, too.

We need spiritual insurance: protection for our hearts.

Ephesians 6:13 says we have it. God has given us a whole wardrobe full of spiritual armor. When we put it on daily, we are able to guard our minds and shield our emotions from the unexpected troubles this world passes our way.

Being honest, speaking the truth in love to ourselves and to others is our “belt.” Following after Jesus, living out our love for God and others guards our hearts like a bullet-proof “vest.”

Having the mind of Christ or checking every thought in with God, is our “helmet.” Reading, speaking and meditating on God’s Words is our “sword.” Believing that God cares for us in all situations is our “shield” of faith. God’s “shoes” come from sharing His love for others in the things we do.

Put on the armor God has given you every day. Fight the good fight with truth, goodness, God’s Word, love, and faith!

Reflection

What was the last tragedy in my life? How did God’s armor help me overcome it?

Prayer

Dear Lord, Please help me to live with spiritual armor on. Help me to be honest, faithful, good, and loving. May I meditate on Your Word, growing to know You more and more. In Jesus’ powerful name I pray, Amen.
