The LORD’s eyes are toward the righteous. His ears listen to their cry. The righteous cry, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.
Praise the LORD, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits.
Psalm 103:2
I forget a lot of things, like where I put my keys or the color of my toothbrush (true story - I’m not a morning person). And then there’s things you couldn’t pay me to forget like my vacation time and big bonuses. Naturally, I think we are inclined to haze over our responsibilities but clearly remember our work benefits.
How about remembering the benefits of God? Do you ever recount them?
And what are they even? Personally I love what this old hymn says:
Pardon for sin and a peace that endures, God’s own dear presence to cheer and to guide; Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Don’t you feel your spirit rise as you even read those words? Praise is a powerful weapon against depression, doubt, and self pity because it takes our eyes off ourselves and places them on God. As we behold Him and as we center our thoughts on Him, we find that long sought elusive balance because He is the only right foundation.
Praise God today for all His benefits. Remember the moments He left you in awe of His generosity and His provision. Ask Him to open your eyes to His goodness towards you and praise Him when you see it.
