One man of you shall chase a thousand; for it is the LORD your God who fights for you, as he spoke to you.
How does one man triumph over a thousand men with only a donkey’s jawbone?
How does an unskilled shepherd boy defeat a giant? How do the walls of a fortified city fall down after a small army marches around it for six days and shouts on the seventh day? The simple answer is God.
God’s presence empowers us to accomplish the impossible because nothing is impossible for Him; nothing is beyond His sovereignty. God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-loving.
In Joshua 23, Joshua is an old man, near death, admonishing the Israelite leaders to be strong and courageous. He reminds them of the many ways God has given them the victory despite the odds being stacked up against them.
Joshua is an eyewitness to God’s faithfulness and ability to empower His children to win in the face of what appears to be certain defeat.
God wants you to win. He wants to give you the victory over every obstacle in your life. There may be a thousand problems facing you today, but no one can overcome you if you are connected to God and abide in His truth. God is cheering you on! He is empowering you to win.
All He asks you to do is trust Him so He can give you the victory.
Do I really trust God to empower me to win? What steps can I take today to put my trust in God?
Heavenly Lord, Thank You for empowering me to win, being by my side every step of the way, and giving me the victory. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
