The Dead Body Arises

by Pastor Ken

Isaiah 26:19

Your dead shall live. Their dead bodies shall arise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust; for your dew is like the dew of herbs, and the earth will cast out the departed spirits.

Have you ever been so tired that you fell asleep the minute your head hit the pillow? Then, when you woke up, you felt completely refreshed and ready to go?

Jesus told people who went to the tomb of Lazarus from Bethany that the dead were just sleeping (John 11:11).

When He raised Lazarus from the dead, Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26).

That’s how it will be for us someday, too. When we die, we will sleep in death for a while until Jesus comes back to take those who have been saved to heaven for all eternity. It will be as He said: He came to take those who follow and obey, to move them from death into a new eternal life (John 5:24).

When you know Jesus as your Savior, you don’t need to fear death because it is only for a while, and then you will wake up to receive your new eternal life.

Reflection

How does my faith in Jesus inform my thoughts on death and resurrection?

Prayer

Dear Lord, I fully believe the promise of resurrection. Help me to live my life without any fear of death. Give me great confidence and assurance of the day of resurrection, when I will spend eternity in Your presence. In the name of Jesus, who is my Resurrection, I pray, Amen.
