Now he who plants and he who waters are the same, but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s farming, God’s building.
I recall attempting to plant a seed for the very first time.
Being from a large city, it was an adventure. I placed the pot on my window sill, expecting overnight results. I hurried home daily to search for signs of life, but discovered nothing.
I repositioned the small pot to a different sill, added more water and once again came skidding home in search of growth. Again, I found nothing.
Dejected, I sulked at my defeat. The soil lay as flat and brown as before. Not even a hint of green poked through.
I planned to dump the pot of dead dirt and turn my time and energies to more gainful prospects. But life distracted me, causing me to postpone my decision.
A few days later, when I saw the pot again, to my utter amazement, a long green stem and two leaves spread out as if to welcome my inspection!
The problem was neither defective seed nor poor soil. The problem was my impatience and my expectation that all development happens above ground in full view.
I was mistaken about how to farm, but overjoyed because God’s farming included me! I am a testament to His patience. In me, He alone can see the growth that is imperceptible to others.
How do I feel about being a part of “God’s farming?” In what ways does He tenderly see to my care?
Dear God, Thank You for Your patience with me. Thanks for all You provide for my growth. I praise You for detecting life where others see only dirt. In Christ’s name I pray, Amen.
