A fool vents all of his anger, but a wise man brings himself under control.
Family is God’s design for continuing and nurturing the human race. It is also His design for teaching us to honor and respect one another and to love unconditionally as Christ loves us.
However, because we are so imperfect, so are families.
I know this all too well. Because of it, I am always in the position of having to choose whether to handle my anger or let it handle me.
You see, no matter how old we get, we still crave the acceptance and affirmations of love from our parents. But for me, that’s not there. Suffice to say that it would be incredibly easy for me to throw a huge toddler-like tantrum about how unloved they have always made me feel.
But I don’t.
Instead, I keep calling every day to make sure Mom is okay and finding little ways to make her days less lonely since Dad died. I have consciously chosen to control my anger and hurt by trusting God to take care of it for me, so I don’t dishonor Him in the way I handle it.
It’s not easy, but I know it can be done because I do it every day. And if I can do it with God’s help, then I know you can, too… you and God.
How can I let God handle situations that make me angry? What specific actions can I take?
Dear God, Please give me Your strength and wisdom to be still in my anger and let You speak to me and for me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
