The Lamb for Your Freedom

by Sam

John 1:29

The next day, he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

In the Jewish religion, every time you sinned, you had to offer the life an animal as a sacrifice.

You would take a lamb without any spots and lead it to the temple. There, you would confess your sin upon its head before taking a knife and slicing the lamb’s throat.

The blood of the lamb was applied to the horns of the altar and poured out beneath the altar. The sin transferred from you to the lamb and then to the blood.

Jesus came to take away all sin in the world.

Every time someone takes God’s Name in vain, is lustful, covets, or steals, there is a cost. The wages of sin — all sin, from lying to murder — is death. But praise be to God that Jesus is our Lamb.

Jesus transferred every single sin you have ever committed, and will ever commit, to Himself. Then He took the punishment for those sins. He died and poured out His blood on the altar of sacrifice.

He did this so you could be free of sin. So you could have a chance at eternal life.

Jesus died because He couldn’t imagine heaven without you there. He has already paid the cost and now extends to you the offer of freedom.

Reflection

What are some things I am glad that Jesus has saved me from? I will write them down and thank Jesus again.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, Thank You for loving me long before I even knew You. I give all my sins to You and accept the freedom You bought with Your life. Thank You for Your endless, eternal love. In Your name I pray, Amen.
