Therefore he is also able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them.
Did you know Jesus is interceding to God on your behalf?
Romans 8:34 asks:
Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, yes rather, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
Likewise, today’s verse promises, “He lives forever to make intercession for them.”
Intercession means “intervening” or “attempting to alleviate conflict.”
In other words, Jesus is praying for you and for me. He’s doing everything He can to intervene with God and alleviate any conflicts our imperfect lives might cause.
Take a minute to imagine it: in heaven, Jesus is actively praying for you to keep your faith strong, to do well from day to day, and to have a passion to do God’s will for your life. What a beautiful image! He is praying for you just like He prayed for Simon Peter on the night Jesus was arrested:
“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have you that he might sift you as wheat, but I prayed for you, that your faith wouldn’t fail. You, when once you have turned again, establish your brothers.”
Luke 22:31-32
Oh, what a blessing to know Jesus loves us this much!
What benefits come from “drawing near to God” through Jesus? How do I do this?
Dear Jesus, Thank You for praying for me constantly. Please remind me to think of Your intercession for me, so I can keep my faith strong and share what You have done for me with others. In Your name I always pray, Amen.
