Air is invisible.

We know it exists because we see and feel how it changes the world around us.

Air blows seeds; it pushes clouds; it tangles hair. The air lifts planes, drives hurricanes, turns tornados and fills lungs. Whether it’s tumultuous or still, the air is a force causing change.

Faith, like air, is invisible. The perspective that faith leads to, the trust faith causes, the passion faith brings out, changes our actions. Faith is a very real movement of our thinking. It has effects on what we choose to do and say.

Faith can be heard in words of trust spoken during overwhelming circumstance, in the prayers of thanksgiving said in the tough times, in encouraging self-talk when we’re depressed. Faith can be seen in our tithe and in the Sabbath we honor. It can be felt in the peace that comes when we pray. Invisible faith is really visible.

Faith isn’t the whole of our salvation, though.

Like air, faith must have a force to put it in motion. For air, sunlight is that force. It causes air to rise and fall; it causes wind. Likewise, God’s grace, God’s gift of Jesus — the Light of the World — is the force that gives our faith movement.
