The Joy Of Working

by Darla Noble

Ecclesiastes 5:19

Every man also to whom God has given riches and wealth, and has given him power to eat of it, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labor — this is the gift of God.

Have you ever worked at a job you didn’t enjoy? One you didn’t feel you were suited for? What did you do? Did you quit? Or are you still in that position, but wishing you weren’t? Well guess what? God doesn’t want you to feel trapped or miserable in your work. He created you with your own special set of talents and abilities—things you are naturally good at and suited for. And He wants you to use these things in your vocation. God wants you to rejoice and take pride in your work.

God wants you to feel good about your work. He wants you to excel in your profession. He wants you to be happy throughout the day as you go about the business of doing your job. But most of all, God wants you to recognize that your ability to do your job comes from Him. He wants you to acknowledge and thank Him for the joy and privilege of working.

Pray: “Father, God, thank you for giving me the ability to work. Help me also to find fulfilment in the work you created me to do. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
