Making Time

by Katelyn Molloy

Isaiah 28:24-26

Does he who plows to sow plow continually? Does he keep turning the soil and breaking the clods? When he has leveled its surface, doesn’t he plant the dill, and scatter the cumin seed, and put in the wheat in rows, the barley in the appointed place, and the spelt in its place? For his God instructs him in right judgment and teaches him.

Time is such an interesting concept.

Each day holds twenty-four hours in which to live life and conduct your business. In those hours, you’re sleeping, eating, working, running errands, doing chores, finishing homework, as well as trying to spend time with God. It can all be a little overwhelming.

Consider the parable of a person who had a glass jar and many different sized rocks. The jar represented a day, while the rocks represented the things they had to do. The small rocks were chores and daily responsibilities, while the biggest rock represented spending time with God. The person began by putting the smaller rocks into the jar, but when they got to the biggest rock, they had no more room. So, they started over, this time with the largest rock first. To their surprise, everything fit when they put spending time with God first!

God wants to help us better organize our time, but it’s hard for Him to help us if we’re never talking with or listening to Him.

When we put God first, we’re showing Him that He’s a priority, and when we make Him a priority, He will guide us, direct us, and instruct us on how best to use our time. When God goes first, everything else fits.

Reflection

Am I putting God first in my life? Why or why not? What or who takes up most of the hours in my day? What makes up a balanced life?

Prayer

Dear God, Please help me to put You first in my life. Please instruct me on how to make the best use of the time I have on this earth. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
