Not everyone has great parents.

King Hezekiah didn’t. His dad, King Ahaz, worshiped idols, even sacrificing his own children to them. But Hezekiah grew up seeking God. At age 25, he became king and led his country to the one true God. He put God first in his every endeavor. In return, God allowed his plans to prosper.

It’s a rare story today that tells of a successful person who’s been raised in chaos. It’s not natural for a garden, an animal, or a child to grow well in neglect or discord… unless God is involved.

That is the story of Michael Franzese. He grew up the son of the Underboss of the Colombo crime family. He made millions illegally, keeping gasoline taxes that belonged to the federal government.

In 1986, Franzese went to prison. There he spent time in solitary confinement reevaluating his life.

When a prison guard handed him a Bible, Franzese gave his endeavors to Jesus. When he got out of prison, he abandoned the mafia.

His own father was out for his life, but Franzese had committed himself to Jesus. He poured himself into writing and speaking encouragement to refugees, prisoners, youth, and Christians everywhere.
