After enjoying a tasty meal at my husband’s favorite restaurant, we noticed a homeless man sleeping in the parking lot of the food plaza. A shopping cart filled with his belongings was near where he lay on the ground.

My husband felt impressed to approach this man and offer to buy him some food. From a distance, I watched as they spoke.

My husband bought him lunch and promised to return the next day to help out.

On our way home, he told me that the homeless man was a believer. It turned out that he had a Bible in the midst of all his belongings, but he hadn’t eaten all day.

I realized that I hadn’t stopped to think about Christians who experience homelessness. Often, it is too easy for us think of these individuals as “other” and not as brothers and sisters, a part of the household of faith.

According to experts, an estimated 580,000 people are experiencing homelessness in the United States alone. Two percent of the global population is homeless.

Friend, homelessness is a global challenge that has magnified since the pandemic. These alarming numbers show us the importance of extending kindness to others. As believers, let’s seize the opportunity to do good to others, especially to fellow Christians.
