God’s grace is free.

No amount of work can earn God’s grace. It comes before we acknowledge that God even exists.

There is more than one form of grace.

Scripture says that God knew us before we were conceived (Jeremiah 1:5). We have been given free will that enables us to make choices. We can accept or reject God, yet His grace is always present at our choosing. This is prevenient grace. It’s anticipatory: “the grace that comes before us.”

Imagine standing on a front porch of a home, looking in. You must make a choice to enter. Now imagine that Jesus is standing just inside the doorway. Your choice to enter into Jesus’ world is justifying grace. Choosing to accept Jesus means your world has changed. You have acknowledged God’s grace.

Then it’s time to grow in faith. Studying the scriptures and being in community with other Christians through worship enables us to make better decisions. This is sanctifying grace, when we continue to acknowledge God’s grace and strive to do His work here on earth, knowing that this is the key to the kingdom He promises us.

Before we accepted Jesus Christ, we did not have a clue what God’s grace has done for us, but now we know!
